Animal Crossing Wasps: How to catch wasps, avoid stings and make medicine in New Horizons explained

Not the wasps! Not the wasps!

Wasps have returned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons - and they're as angry as ever.

Hidden away in the trees covering you island, you'll never know which treetop is safe and which one contains a wasp nests.

For that reason, it's always a good idea to carry some medicine, so that you can heal your stings.

These, however, are not the only dangerous bugs lurking on your island in New Horizons.

On this page:

Wasps in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

If you shake one of the many trees on your island in New Horizons, you might find yourself uncovering a secret treasure, like 100 Bells or maybe even a piece of furniture. Sometimes, however, you'll find yourself dislodging a wasps nest.

Once that wasps nest falls to the ground, a swamp of the angry insects will emerge and begin to chase you about your island.

When a wasp nest falls from a tree, its inhabitants will begin to chase you. Don't let them catch you!

With a bit of courage and luck, you might be able to turn around and capture the insects in your net.

Be warned - if the wasps catch you, then you will be stung. This will put an eye-patch over one of your eyes and, if you're stung a second time, then there's a chance you'll faint.

Wasps can also appear in any season in New Horizons, so always make sure to stay on your guard when shaking trees.

How to catch wasps easily in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Wasps are both a blessing and a curse in New Horizons. They ruin your face for a short while, but they sell for 2,500 bells. You need to catch one to complete the Museum, but wasps are a tricky bug to catch.

If you're having trouble catching wasps, then here are a couple of rules for you to follow, which will keep the wasp in your net and not on your face:

  • Always have your net out! Wasps can move while you're using your Tool Ring, so make sure you're already holding your net, so that you surprise them.
  • Stand in front of the tree when you shake it. This will cause the nest to drop directly next to you, which means that you don't have to run towards the wasps and put yourself in more danger.
  • Press A the moment the nest drops. When the nest drops, your avatar will automatically turn towards it. If you stood in front of the tree, this means that it will have landed one tile away from you, so all you have to do now is swing your net to catch the wasp.

Hopefully following these steps will help you catch every single wasp you encounter!

How to get medicine when you get stung in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you're unable to escape the wasps, then you're going to end up stung. To fix your poor face, you're going to need some medicine.

Use medicine to heal your face.

Like most things in New Horizons, it's possible to craft medicine at a DIY workbench.

To get the Medicine recipe, talk to one of your villagers, who will remark on your unfortunate condition and lend you a helping hand.

All it takes is:

  • 1x Wasp Nest
  • 3x Clumps of weeds

If you'd rather purchase your medicine, however, then visit Residential Services or, once it's opened Nook's Cranny, where you can purchase it for 400 Bells.

Other dangerous bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

Wasps, however, are not the only dangerous insect living on your island in New Horizons, there are also tarantulas lurking in the bushes.

You need to make sure you move very slowly if you want to catch a Tarantula, because if they see you, they will chase you. Unlike wasps, however, if a tarantula catches you, then you will faint, reawakening in your house.

Turns out tarantula can't swim in Animal Crossing.

You won't need to take any medicine from this fainting spell, but you may find yourself quite far away from where you originally were.

That said, finding them (and the mythical Tarantula Island) is a fantastic way to make money - so don't squander the opportunity in catching them!

There have also been sightings of scorpions on islands in New Horizons as well... so be on the look out for other dangerous creatures as you explore!
