Shooting stars in New Horizons are exactly what they sound like - shooting stars that will appear in the night sky, which you can wish on. These special stars are more likely to appear during meteor showers.

How to wish on a shooting star in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

Before you can wish upon a shooting star in New Horizons, you have to find one. You can do this by either finding a place where you can view a large patch of sky and simply wait or by carrying on with island life and listening for a chime-like sound, which signifies that a shooting star is passing overhead.

Tilt the right analogue stick upwards and press A to wish upon a star.

Once you see or hear a shooting star, tilt the camera upwards by pushing forwards the right analogue stick and then press A as the star passes. Just make sure you're not holding anything in your hands!

If done correctly, your avatar will put their hands together and the star will glow yellow for a second.

Make sure you keep looking at the sky for a few seconds after wishing upon a star, because a second, and maybe even a third, are quite likely to pass through the sky, allowing you to make even more wishes.

Star fragments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

If you successfully wish upon a star in New Horizons, make sure you visit the beaches on your island. Along the sandy shores of your island, you should find a fallen Star fragment, which could be one of three types.

These materials will always appear on your beach the day after you've wished upon a shooting star. Make sure you check your beach thoroughly, because there might be quite a few Star fragments waiting for you if you made a lot of wishes.

The types of Star fragment you can find are:

  • Star fragment
  • Large star fragment
  • A constellation based star fragment

You can use Star fragments to make the various wands you can discover or to craft rare pieces of furniture.

Constellation fragments in New Horizons

Which constellation star fragment you receive in New Horizons depends on which zodiac sign is currently active. It's important to note that the zodiac remains the same for both the northern and southern hemisphere.

This means that if Capricorn is the active zodiac sign, then there's a chance you'll receive a Capricorn fragment from wishing on a star.

Aries fragments are avaliable from March 21st to April 19th.

  • Sagittarius - November 22nd to December 21st

Wands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

Wands are a special type of tool in New Horizons that allow you to store up to eight pre-set outfits and quickly change into them whenever you want.

Celeste will give you the recipe for the Star wand, but there are a variety of other wand DIY recipes that you can hunt down. This includes the Bamboo wand and the Cherry blossom wand.

Every wand DIY recipe requires a number of Star fragments; the Star wand DIY recipe, for example, requires one large star fragment and three star fragments.
