How does the A Brother's Keeper mission in Assassin's Creed Valhalla work?
Sigurd will either remain in Norway or return to England in Chapter 2 of In the Hall of the Slain, mission A Brother's Keeper, based on your previous story choices and decisions made during this quest.
After the mission in Wincestre is complete, Sigurd tells Eivor that he wants to travel back to Norway to confront his father, Styrbjorn (Where Legends Are Born). Eivor agrees and they sail off to Hordafylke.
Once there, Sigurd confronts his father and reprimands him for bending to King Harald. Having said his peace, Sigurd leads Eivor out of Hordafylke and into the wilderness where he claims the door to Valhalla is kept hidden (A Brother's Keeper).
Inside a large cave in the middle of the frozen wilderness, Sigurd and Eivor find a door. Sigurd is able to open it and inside they find a large machine not unlike an Animus. Sigurd interacts with a globe and Sigurd and Eivor are immediately transported into a simulation.
The simulation leads Sigurd and Eivor to believe that they have finally reached Valhalla, but inconsistencies prove that what they are seeing is a lie. Eivor is able to convince Sigurd to leave the simulation and go back to Ravensthorpe. Sigurd reluctantly agrees.
Once out of the machine, Eivor and Sigurd are confronted by Basim, who has followed them to Norway. A fight ensues between Eivor and Basim while Sigurd tries to lure Basim into the central platform. Together Sigurd and Eivor trap Basim in the simulation, where they leave him to live out his days in darkness.
A Brother's Keeper decisions in Assassin's Creed Valhalla explained
Sigurd and Eivor have one final talk before heading back to Ravensthorpe. It's in this conversation that several key story choices with Sigurd from throughout the game come into play.
If you sided with Sigurd enough, Sigurd will name three times that proved Eivor's loyalty. If so, Sigurd will then step down as jarl and name Eivor the new jarl of Ravensthorpe. Once they return to Raventhorpe, Sigurd will make the announcement and Ravensthorpe's people will celebrate the decision.
There is a choice available in this mission if you have gone against Sigurd a number of times in various story choices up until now, which can sway Sigurd at this final moment.
Eivor will have three choices:
- Brother, return home with me.
- I understand your anger.
- Your place is here.
Remember, if you manage to have more than three story choices going against Sigurd, the above choices will not appear and Sigurd will automatically return to England.
The new DLC is here - and we explain how to start The Siege of Paris, as well as new romance options and Treasure Hoard locations. If you're after end game activities in the full game, we can explain how to get Nodens' Arc, Excalibur, Thor gear and other Valhalla armour sets, Power Level and how to get XP fast, Order of the Ancients locations and all Assassin's Creed Valhalla story choices. If you're looking for things to collect and upgrade, we have lists on best skills and Book of Knowledge locations.
How does telling Sigurd to return home, your place is here or I understand your anger affect Assassin's Creed Valhalla?
Selecting 'Brother, return home with me' will convince Sigurd to return to England and Sigurd will still name Eivor as jarl.
Selecting 'I understand your anger' results in Sigurd staying in Norway and Eivor becomes the jarl of Ravensthorpe.
Selecting 'Your place is here' results in the same outcome - Sigurd remains and Eivor becomes the jarl of Ravensthorpe (A Quiet Homecoming).
If you have four or five negative choices against Sigurd, if Eivor asks if Sigurd to return to England, he will still say no.
If you have made three negatives choices, then selecting 'Brother, return home with me,' will negate one of them, and Sigurd will return to England.
When it comes to the other story choices in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, we also have pages on Soma's traitor, killing or sparing Leofrith, killing or sparing Reud, taking or leaving the resources in England, whether you should punch Basim, telling Ubba the truth about Ivarr's death, voting for the next Ealdorman of Lincolnscire, who the next Jarl of Snotinghamscire will be and whether Faravid is a traitor.
