Far Cry 6 endings: How to unlock the secret ending in Far Cry 6

Spoilers!

Far Cry 6 follows series tradition in offering a secret ending.

This takes place long before the real ending will occur - meaning you can see an alternative outcome to how the story ends.

That said, you only have a small window to watch it - and doing so will grant you a Trophy / Achievement for your trouble.

This page also discusses a theory about the main Far Cry 6 ending, too. Either way, this page will contain spoilers - so only read on if you want to discuss both yourselves!

How to unlock the secret ending in Far Cry 6

The secret ending to Far Cry 6 is easily missed, despite the fact it's spelled out to you as an option - you just have to go through with it.

Once you have completed mission Libertad Rises and have left the opening island of Isla Santuario, you'll help establish the Libertad HQ on the Zamok Archipelago within the opening hours of the game.

When you first arrive, there will be a cutscene where you will be given a boat so you can sail off into the sunset. Canonically, Dani will continue the fight with Juan and Clara, and by going towards the mission waypoints, the story will continue.

However, from any time then onwards, you can enter a boat (or we imagine, a plane) and travel to the edge of the map to leave Yara, which will play the secret ending. You know you're there when the message 'Leaving Yara, Turn Around!' appears on screen.

You can watch the secret ending in full in the video embedded at the top of this page from the 24:43 mark.

After watching the secret ending, you can load your save and you'll be back where you started on the rooftop in Esperanza. You aren't trapped here, meaning you can fast travel away to a previously unlocked location, but you are free to explore this high level end-game area if you choose.

Far Cry 6's post-credits scene explained

Despite the above secret ending and the opportunity for multiple paths through to the finale, there is only one 'main' ending for Far Cry 6.

We won't spoil that here - but we will discuss the post-credits scene which might have you asking some questions. You can watch that in the video embedded at the top of this page, from the 27:17 mark.

It will - spoilers ahead - see Juan meet up with a character named the Smuggler.

Far Cry fans might recognise the voice as Michael Mando, also known as Vaas - Far Cry 3's most iconic character, and arguably the most popular in the series.

However, those who played Far Cry 3 will be remember Vaas dying as part of the story. So what's going on? It's suggested that, since Far Cry 6 is an alternative universe to Far Cry 5's ending (which left the world in a state where, let's say, other Far Cry games might not easily exist), then it's possible here Vaas is still alive.

Vaas will officially return as part of the Far Cry 6's season pass DLC, which features three standalone episodes with fellow Far Cry villains Pagan Min and Joseph Seed. Are they not as standalone as what's been billed so far, and could they tease more of what's going on?

Either way, it's hard to say whether this is a fun cameo and reference to a fan-favourite character, or hinting at a full return for a future game.

We'll have to wait and see!
