Pokémon Go Mega Aerodactyl counters and weaknesses explained

A mega dinosaur.

Mega Aerodactyl is the mega evolution for Aerodactyl which was released into Pokémon Go as part of the Mountains of Power event running into January 2022.

To obtain Mega Aerodactyl, you need to defeat the Pokémon in mega raids to collect its specific Mega Energy. Once you have the correct amount, you'll be able to enact its evolution for a short time.

Below you'll find Mega Aerodactyl's counters and weaknesses to help you defeat it and, don't forget, Remote Raid passes allow you to join mega raids from across the world.

Mega Aerodactyl counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go

If you want to mega evolve Aerodactyl in Pokémon Go, you must collect its Mega Energy by defeating Mega Aerodactyl in a number of raids. Below you'll find the counters and weaknesses for Mega Aerodactyl to help you contribute to these battles:

  • Mega Aerodactyl type - Rock and flying-type
  • Mega Aerodactyl is weak against - Electric, ice, rock, steel and water-types
  • Mega Aerodactyl counters - Raikou, Swampert, Metagross, Kyogre, Empoleon, Rhyperior, Dialga, Terrakion and Zekrom
  • Other Mega Aerodactyl notes - For the non-legendary Pokémon, it's a good idea to use an Elite TM to ensure they have a set of powerful attacks.

New to the game is a long overdue Mega Evolution update, which has arrived alongside the A Mega Moment research. May 2022 is closing with the Alola to Alola event and special research quest, which has four different sets of challenges for you to choose from. Currently both the Ultra League and Element Cup are running in the Go Battle League. Elsewhere, we've recently seen the release of more Gen 7 Pokémon as part of the Season of Alola. The first details surrounding Go Fest 2022 have also been announced, including the event date.

Mega Aerodactyl CP in Pokémon Go

Here you'll find the raid boss CP for Mega Aerodactyl in Pokémon Go:

  • Mega Aerodactyl CP - 56399

Winning this raid will reward you with Mega Aerodactyl Energy rather than an encounter with Aerodactyl, which is why Mega Aerodactyl doesn't have any catch-related CP levels for mega raids.

Everything we know about Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is a Gen 1 Pokémon which, in the mainline Pokémon games, is often obtained by reviving a piece of Old Amber at certain labs dotted across the world of Pokémon.

The Aerodactyl you receive, however, is not the Pokémon in its true form. If you wish to see how Aerodactyl looked in the prehistoric era, then you need to conduct its Mega Evolution. Doing so will cause rocks to sprout across Aerodactyl's body, emphasising its draconic appearance.

Aerodactyl is inspired by both dragons and a type of dinosaur known as Pterosaurs. Palaeontologists would later look to Aerodactyl for inspiration when naming a pterosaur genus - Aerodactylus.

Good luck battling Mega Aerodactyl!
