SOE boss Smedley goes to war on “scumbag” Planetside 2 cheaters

"We'll find you. We'll find your family. We'll hunt you down."

Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has gone to war on Planetside 2 cheaters, calling one he banned live on Twitter a “scumbag”.

Planetside 2 cheating is a growing issue, with growing threads on the official forum packed with complaints.

Smedley used the social network to proclaim that his team will hunt down those who use aimbots to gain an unfair advantage in the free-to-play first-person shooter, and encouraged legitimate players to report cheaters.

“Those of you using aimbots are being hunted down and banned,” he said. “Remember to use /report. People are being banned left and right.”

Then, “We have guys who's [sic] purpose in life is to ban the bad guys and dumbasses that use hacking tools.”

Understandably, Smedley refused to reveal how SOE goes about detecting cheaters, but did say “we have a lot of ways to accomplish a goal”.

“We don't disclose methods but we planned for this.”

Then, to prove his point, one player, called Haruhi, was banned.

“Haruhi at artificialaiming.com was just banned,” Smedley said. “All three of his accounts. Goodbye, you scumbag. Find a new hobby or get good at the game.”

Then a stark warning: “We don't need to cross reference anything. Use it.. we'll find you. we'll find your family. we'll hunt you down.”
