Nintendo has scotched rumours that it plans to resurrect its Space World event in the run-up to the Wii launch later this year.

"Space World is not happening this year," Nintendo of America PR manager Matt Atwood told AMN. "We will do other things to make announcements. We certainly will have events upcoming, but it's funny a lot of people asked about Space World, and Space World was a venue for Nintendo to show its wares, and we're going to do that, we're just going to do it in different ways."

Atwood also hinted at the possibility of Super Mario Galaxy arriving on or near the Wii launch. "Anything is possible," apparently. The suggestion comes two months after Shigeru Miyamoto told an audience of journalists during an after-hours E3 presentation of Super Smash Bros. Brawl that the game would "definitely be there within the first six months". Miyamoto had said he was unprepared to commit to the Q4 launch date, which Nintendo has yet to announce.

Nintendo will be at the Leipzig Games Convention later this month. However, the company has said that a big announcement will be made in September.
