Wii and GameCube emulator Dolphin can now run Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl in 720p high definition.

The latest version of the program was released on Friday and has caused ripples of excitement across the internet. As Wii HD rumours continue to circulate, such a display illustrates not only what the jump to 720p would look like but also how easily it could be achieved.

There is a YouTube video of Super Mario Galaxy running in HD to watch, plus screenshots.

The Dolphin team is looking into Wii remote controller compatibility issues, incidentally.

Head over to the Dolphin website to find out much more.
