Galarian Yamask and Runerigus in Pokémon Go explained

Galarian Yamask made its first appearance in Pokémon Sword and Shield as one of the original 14 Galar variants, which are Pokémon from previous generations that have a different appearance and typing in the Galar regions.

Regional variants made their first appearance in Gen 7 with the Alolan Pokémon.

Unlike a typical Gen 5 Yamask, Galarian Yamask is a joint ground and ghost-type Pokémon. It also evolves into the Gen 8 Pokémon Runerigus, instead of Cofagrigus.

Runerigus is also a ground and ghost-type Pokémon that appears to be constructed out of abandoned runestones.

A Gen 5 Yamask will evolve into a Cofagrigus.

The easiest way to catch a Galarian Yanmask in Pokémon Go is to complete the Special Research quest, A Spooky Message Unmasked.

By doing so you'll earn an encounter with a Galarian Yamask, which you can have as your Buddy to collect more Yamask candy if needed and, eventually, evolve into a Runerigus.

It's important to note that A Spooky Message Unmasked was released as part of the 2020 Halloween event, so, if you didn't log into Pokémon Go during this event or made your account afterwards, there's a chance you'll be unable to access this quest.
