Shiny Phantump, evolution chart, 100% perfect IV stats and Trevenant best moveset in Pokémon Go

This week’s Spotlight Hour is all about the Stump Pokémon. That’s right, it’s finally time to look for a powerful Pokémon during a Spotlight Hour event! It’s time to catch a perfect Phantump, in Pokémon Go.
Trevenant, Phantump’s evolution, has been a mainstay of Go Battle League from the moment it entered Pokémon Go. It performs fantastically well in Go Battle League, meaning that it’s one of those Pokémon that is in constant demand; however, given the seasonality of Ghost-type Pokémon (and general lack of foggy weather for most Trainers around the world), Phantump is a relatively rare spawn outside of Halloween month.
Since you’re likely going to be catching a lot of Phantump, you’ll be pleased to know that the bonus that runs alongside this Spotlight Hour is the double catch XP bonus. If you can get the hang of Excellent Curve Balls with Phantump, you can rack up XP quickly over the course of the hour!

Phantump’s 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go explained
This week’s Spotlight Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Phantump with perfect IV stats.
'Perfect' means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the maxed out, 100% IV version, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for your 4* Pokédex, raids and Master League. Yet, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is generally only ever the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see the IV of a Pokémon without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Phantump based on the CP alone.
If you’re at Level 30 (or above), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Phantump:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 963 CP
- Level 35 (weather boosted CP maximum) – 1043 CP
The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we’ve kept to these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you’re currently below Level 30.
Is Trevenant good in PVP?
Despite recent move updates trying to make Trevenant all bark, no bite, this Pokémon is still a very good choice in Go Battle League. It is far and away the best Ghost and Grass-type, and a top-5 Ghost-type in both Great League and Ultra League.
If you’ve long wanted to try the Spooky Elder Tree Pokémon, be on the lookout for an 0/15/15 for Great League or a 1/15/15 for Ultra. You’ll want to teach it Shadow Claw, Seed Bomb and Shadow Ball if you want the best chances of success. This will offer a spammy and flexible moveset that applies decent shield pressure. Just be aware that at 4’11", this Elder Tree is more of a whomping willow than a sturdy old oak; it favours attack over defence, so don’t try for the long game here.
In Great League, this gives you wins against Swampert, Medicham, Lanturn, Registeel and Galarian Stunfisk. Losses come from Gligar, Lickitung, Umbreon, Alolan Sandslash and Sableye.
Ultra League offers a similar set of match-ups: you win against Swampert, Cobalion, Cresselia, Giratina and Tapu Fini. Losses will come from Charizard, Obstagoon, Walrein, Jellicent and Scrafty.
Master League is the land of dragons, which means it’s also the land of Ice-type Pokémon. As such, Grass-types rarely get a look in. Also, despite being a Ghost, it loses to Mewtwo and Lugia (because stats; a perfect Level 50 Trevenant is 2893 CP). Sorry Trevenant...
The World of Wonders season has come to Pokémon Go. Rivals Week is currently running in Pokémon Go. You can now catch Wiglett and, if you don't have one already, Diancie through the Glitz and Glam quest. There's also the Rediscover Kanto and World of Wonders quests to complete! Unfortunately, there’s no Shiny Phantump in Pokémon Go!
If you want a preview of what shiny Phantump and shiny Trevenant look like, they’re actually pretty cool. Both swap their bark for a bleached-white look, with autumnal red leaves. We love the way this leans into the spooky vibe, and can’t want to catch them in Pokémon Go!.

Other tips for this Spotlight Hour
Aside from trying to catch a shiny Trevenant in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of other good reasons to partake in this week’s Spotlight Hour:
- The best reason is, of course, the double catch XP bonus running throughout the hour. This applies to all Pokémon caught, so do your best to get good at Excellent Curve Ball throws on a Trevenant to quickly rack up the XP!
- If you’re a newcomer, this Spotlight Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Trevenant candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and enter all of its evolutions in the Pokédex. You’re going to need a lot so make sure you use those Pinap Berries!
- Thanks to Trevenant being a Ghost and Grass-type, catching a bunch during this Spotlight Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medals.
Spotlight Hour events only last for an hour – 6pm to 7pm (local time). Come back next week for a primer on Yamask, which paws its way onto the stage with a double catch candy bonus — the most exciting October bonus! Why? Because this is Halloween!
