Pokémon Sword and Shield Route 5 - available Pokémon, items and trainers

Our complete walkthrough for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Route 5 is a nice little route with a lengthy bridge - perfect for hatching eggs from the nearby Nursery - and follows on from Turffield and Milo's Gym in your quest through Pokémon Sword and Shield's main story.

On each page of our walkthrough like this, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their teams that you might come across here, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story, puzzles or challenges along the way.

Where applicable, note that our walkthrough pages will be down into separate sections referring to each of your visits to a given location, seeing as you often backtrack or revisit various places in your quest to become Galar League Champion. And of course if there are any, we'll clearly mark any spoilers, too!

For more explainers, meanwhile, or walkthrough pages on more locations in Sword and Shield, head back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Sword and Shield Route 5: available Pokémon, items and trainers

There are two parts to Route 5, really. The first is a nice grassy area just outside of Turffield. The upper part features some long grass and the Pokémon Nursery - the place where you can leave Pokémon to gain Exp. as you walk and, if you leave two that are compatible, breed to lay an Egg.

Be sure to go inside: a breeder in the Nursery will gift you a free Toxel, which evolves into the very useful Toxtricity. The evolution method itself is quite unusual - our guide on how to evolve Toxel into Toxtricity can help with that - but it's well worth it! And, plus, Toxel is super cute.

Other than that, the lower area features a campsite and a few more Pokémon, items and trainers - this route is the first place you can get a Galar Farfetch'd if you'r playing Sword, by the way - and then its time to progress onto the bridge to the east. Oh, and catch a spare Minccino if you have the time - someone wants one in a trade in the next town.

On the bridge there are a number of respawning, hidden Feather items, plus a few trainers and a Doctor, who's being hassled by a group of Team Yell. Defeat them and he'll award you the Rotom Bike, which you can activate with the + button at any time, and boost for a bit with B! It's a great way to get around fast.

Continue over the bridge and Hop will challenge you to another battle. Beat him, press on to the other side for a slightly different group of available wild Pokémon, and then you're all done with route 5!
