John Woo to direct game

Chow Yun-Fat to star.

Hong Kong film legend John Woo has signed up to direct a new action game for next-gen consoles, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Entitled Stranglehold, the game is currently in development at Midway's Chicago studio. It's set in Hong Kong and Chicago and stars Chow-Yun Fat as Inspector “Tequila” Yuen, the role he played in Woo's classic 1992 action flick Hard-Boiled.

“With Stranglehold, I want to go back to my roots and do a gritty, emotional and sensational game,” Woo said.

“It's kind of like Hard-Boiled but in a more updated environment. I never believed I could have topped my action in that film, but Stranglehold will bring the action to an even higher level.”

Woo is also collaborating with horror author Clive Barker on next-gen console title Demonik - you can read more about it here.

Stranglehold is slated for a release at the end of 2006.
