Need for Speed PC delayed so frame-rate can be unlocked, visuals improved

So it's good right off the bat, man.

The PC version of Need for Speed has been delayed to spring 2016, developer Ghost Games has announced. PS4 and Xbox One versions are unaffected and heading for a 5th November release.

The PC version has been held back so Ghost Games can sensibly unlock the game's frame-rate as well as improve the visuals - essentially deliver the kind of experience a PC audience expects.

A blog post explained:

"Our PC community [said] that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we've made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016.

"This decision on PC gives us the necessary development time to increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC. We will also include content updates that will have been released on console up to that time, making them available to all PC players from day one."

When the PC version does arrive, all the content released for the console games between November and spring 2016 will be included, which suggests for free.

A PS4 and Xbox One beta will happen in the "coming weeks" to test server infrastructure.

The new Need for Speed is a reboot that blends full-motion video sequences and gameplay to alluring effect. It's based around underground street racing and impressing various legends of that scene by replicating their trick videos and gaining fame.

Controversially, this new game requires an internet connection to play, but it's a whole new generation of Need for Speed, so perhaps it'll be worth it.
