HMV will be the only UK retailer selling the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which includes a real pair of night-vision goggles.

The price has been set at GBP 119.99, and the Xbox 360 and PS3 boxes take spotlight position on the HMV homepage. The Prestige Edition sells for USD 149 - around 90 quid - in the US.

It's a hefty price difference that arrives amid controversy, as Activision bumps the base SRP price for Modern Warfare 2 to GBP 54.99 to offset a weak Great British Pound and rising development costs.

HMV is planning to arrange a number of in-store events to support the launch of what the shop told GamesIndustry.biz could be "one of the most eagerly anticipated releases ever".

As well as the goggles, which are fully functional and allow the wearer to see in absolute darkness for up to 50 feet, the Prestige Edition will include:

  • A token which will allow the download to console of the original Call of Duty.
  • An individually-numbered and engraved collector's bust, inspired by the Captain 'Soap' MacTavish's in-game model, which will hold the goggles when not in use.
  • A premium, special-edition SteelBook case with custom artwork by Infinity Ward.
  • A hardbound art book, Behind the Lines designed by the artists at Infinity Ward, featuring the art of Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on 10th November for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Mark it on your calendar, it may be historic.
