Epic Games Store offers price difference refund for recent purchases which go on sale

Plus first look at mods, achievements integration.

It looks like Epic is offering automated partial refunds on games bought via its store, which later have their price cut in a sale.

The unannounced policy was publicised by Studio Mayday founder Joshua Boggs on Twitter, who posted an email from Epic informing him he was eligible for a refund of the price difference.

"You recently placed orders from the Epic Games Store," Epic's store email explained. "The price of the game(s) you purchased were recently lowered, so we are issuing partial refunds for the difference(s)."

It's the first we've heard of such a policy change, and there's no sign of it mentioned in a blog update on new Epic Games Store features published last night.

Perhaps Epic prefers to keep the change quiet to prevent its generosity being abused? We've contacted Epic for more.

Elsewhere in the development update, Epic shared a first look at its store's upcoming support for mods and achievements.

Mods and achievement rockers.

The blog update also recapped the company's January change to its refund policy which aligned it with Steam (unlimited refunds are available for any reason within 14 days of purchase and with under two hours played).

Other recent features include the addition of bandwidth management, keyless integration and more local currencies.

This week Epic stepped up its battle against Steam with an eye-opening offer - a free copy of Grand Theft Auto 5.
