Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition not coming to Wii U

"Nintendo isn't a good platform for developers. The Wii is a toy, not a console."

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition distributor Beamdog has indicated the game won't be released for Wii U.

The Baldur's Gate remake is being developed by Beamdog subsidiary Overhaul Games for a summer 2012 release on PC, Mac and iPad. But the game won't come to Wii U due to the developer's previous experience with platform holder Nintendo.

"We don't do Nintendo development" Beamdog founder and ex-BioWare veteran Trent Oster wrote on Twitter. "Our previous experience with Nintendo was enough to ensure there will not be another."

Overhaul Games last year ported third-person shooter MDK2 to WiiWare, adding in motion controls. The experience was clearly not a favourable one.

"My problems with Nintendo are: requiring 6000 unit sales before payment, a certification process that took us 9 months and a 40mb limit," Oster later added.

Oster did not mention if MK2 on WiiWare had reached the 6000 required sales.

"Nintendo isn't a good platform for developers," Oster concluded. "The Wii is a toy, not a console."
