Watch Dogs: Legion - Hitman and Spy operative locations explained

How to get your hands on two of the best combat-orientated operatives in the game.

Watch Dogs: Legion offers a variety of operative types, each with associated perks to help (or hinder) with the mission at hand.

Two of the most traditional types - for a video game anyway - are the Hitman and Spy operatives, which are perhaps some of the best characters in the game due to their abilities.

These respectively give you stealth and combat-orientated perks and loadouts to give you an edge when exploring enemy-filled bases in missions and side-activities. And, since this is an Ubisoft open-world game, there's plenty of those out there - meaning getting the right operative for the job is all the more important.

Though these operatives are rare, there are multiple reliable ways to find both of them. Also, though they will come with some powerful abilities by default, note their appearance will be random - so if you want a particular Spy or Hitman in mind, then try tracking down another.

Where to find a Spy in Watch Dogs: Legion

There are two ways to get a Spy in Watch Dogs: Legion:

  • By making Westminster defiant
  • By finding a Spy out in the city

Let's go through these one by one.

How to unlock through defiant missions

The most straightforward way to find a Hitman is to liberate the borough of Westminster, the starting area of the game in the north-west of the map.

To do this, you must complete all three of the 'defiant' objectives. Each borough has three of these, and are the red and black icons on the map, and involve a quick and simple task to complete.

The easiest way to do these missions, we found, is to get a drone and ride it to the location. Most are either positioned high up on buildings, or require a degree of stealth, which riding a drone from above is perfect for. It's also the easiest way to go from one to the next to clear them out quickly.

Once done, it then unlocks an exclusive mission, in this case, Like Clockwork. This involves infiltrating the Palace of Westminster - specifically, climbing Big Ben using a Spiderbot. Here's the whole thing in action:

With that complete, the borough is defiant, and the reward - a Spy operative - is yours.

Finding a Spy in the city

That's a guaranteed way to get a Spy. Alternatively, you could make your way to the M-16 building, found in the borough of Lambeth, on the river - which is one of Watch Dogs: Legion's many iconic map landmarks.

From there, scan everyone nearby, and chances are you'll bump into a Spy or two. For us, we found one to the east of the building, next to a car.

Now add to your list of possible recruits, then complete their loyalty mission, to add them to your ranks.

Note this route to getting a Spy relies on luck - we had to visit a couple of times to find one, so if you're struggling, considering making Westminster defiant instead.

Where to find a Hitman in Watch Dogs: Legion

There are two ways to get a Hitman in Watch Dogs: Legion:

  • By making Nine Elms defiant
  • By finding a Hitman in the city

Let's go through these one by one.

How to unlock through defiant missions

The most straightforward way to find a Hitman is to liberate the borough of Nine Elms, the area to the south-west of the map.

It's worth noting these Nine Elms missions are amongst the hardest defiant missions we've come across. For example, the VIP is not a person but in fact a CT Drone, so you'll want to approach it with some serious firepower. (Our recommendation? Bring a CT Drone of your own.)

Once done, it then unlocks an exclusive mission, in this case, The Black Hole of Battersea.

With that complete, the borough is liberated, and the reward - a Hitman operative - is yours.

Finding a Hitman in the city

Like the Spy, it is possible to source a Hitman out in the city through other means. Unlike the Spy, however, there is no 'building' or area designated for this operative type, making things a little more difficult.

That said, you can try a particular spawning location which appears to be reliable. If you head to Brewer Street station (in the borough of Westminster, just north of Piccadilly Circus) then cross the road, you'll be near an an alleyway next to 'Club Fantasy'.

In this alley is where you can find a Hitman. You might have to do this at night for them to appear, so try that if they don't show up during daylight hours. (Thanks to the excellently named breakfastcrusade on reddit for the tip!)

From there, add them to your list of possible recruits, then do their loyalty mission when ready.
