Square Enix trademarks point to new Tomb Raider game reveal

UPDATE: Guardian of Light sequel confirmed, trailer revealed.

UPDATE #2 9.15PM Square Enix has now released its first trailer for Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which confirms the game will launch for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

"After the immensely positive reception we received for our debut co-op adventure Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, we always hoped that we would find the time for Lara to return in another classic AAA digital arcade title," Crystal Dynamics' Darrell Gallagher said.

"We are excited to expand upon Guardian of Light's legacy with an entirely new adventure, and challenged ourselves to create fun new ways to play. Four-player co-op in Lara's world combined with Crystal Dynamics' high production values are being brought to a new generation of platforms and we are excited for more friends to share in the adventure together."

UPDATE #1 7.30pm After the reveal of Rise of the Tomb Raider during Microsoft's press conference, Square Enix's other trademark revealed earlier today has indeed been outed as a Guardian of Light sequel.

Revealed on GameTrailers (thanks, NeoGAF), Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will again be an isometric affair, with four-player co-op.

ORIGINAL STORY 8.35am Square Enix has trademarked two new Tomb Raider titles just days before E3, suggesting we may hear what's next for Lara Croft before the week is out.

The publisher snapped up LaraCroftandtheTempleofOsiris.com and RiseoftheTombRaider.com last Friday (thanks Superannuation).

Both URLs currently only load blank pages.

We know that a sequel to last year's Tomb Raider reboot is in development at Crystal Dynamics, and is now in full swing after the launch of the studio's successful Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

But the wording of the "Temple of Osiris" title sounds more similar to Square Enix's isometric Guardian of Light spin-off. It's possible that we'll see another small downloadable game in the series before the next big console remake.
