SouthPeak unveils anime hackandslash

For PC and consoles this year.

SouthPeak has unveiled an anime-inspired hackandslash for release on PC, 360 and PS3 this year.

Dubbed X-Blades, it puts you in control an elf-like heroine called Ayuni, who uses guns, blades and magic to see off various demonic enemies in all sorts of supernatural places. In between story cut scenes, of course.

It looks pleasing enough; a little reminiscent of World of Warcraft, if you ask us.

"The unique anime-style backdrop combined with high-octane, multi-discipline combat gameplay really pushes X-Blades into brand new territory," said SouthPeak boss Melanie Mroz. "The third-person ‘hack-em-up’ genre needs a fresh perspective and X-Blades is poised to deliver it."

Quite a lot of hyphens, Melanie. Could be a bad sign.

SouthPeak has had a rather ropey time on the Xbox 360 so far, after bringing us full releases Two Worlds and Monster Madness.

Expect more information on this one soon. Pop over to our X-Blades gallery for the first snaps.
