Scorn is H.R. Giger-inspired nightmare fuel

Scorn is billed as a game "where even changing weapons makes you feel a bit sick" and looking at its new trailer below, that sounds pretty accurate.

Developed by the 10-person Serbian studio Ebb Software, Scorn's otherworldly visual stylings owe more than a little to Alien artist H.R. Giger with an unsettling environment composed of diseased organic material and expansive foggy banks that make you queasy just looking at them.

Now on Steam Geenlight with a planned 2017 launch, Scorn is billed as a first-person adventure with puzzles and shooting. Ebb noted that it won't just be a typical FPS, as most creatures you encounter won't try to harm you.

Furthermore, Scorn won't contain any cutscenes or procedural generation as Ebb wants its world to feel meticulously crafted and tell a story through its godforsaken environment.

"All of the storytelling happens in-game, with no cut-scenes to distract you from the grisly reality of the living, breathing (throbbing, dripping) world you're in. But keep your eyes open - the game won't show you any sympathy if you miss something important on your uneasy travels. Everything has a reason and purpose - you just need to work out what it is," the developer said.

"We are trying to create something so unsettling it will make you think about the ideas and themes of the game long after you've finished playing," added Ebb Software's Ljubomir Peklar.

Scorn will be released in two parts with the first half, Dasien, due next year.

Scorn previously had an unsuccessful Kickstarter in 2014, but the developer has since found funding through a private investor.
