Resident Evil 7 is the highest-selling Resident Evil game of all time

And it's the second highest-selling game in Capcom history. Ever.

Resident Evil 7 is now the highest-selling game in the franchise.

According to new figures released by Capcom and spotted by PC Gamer, the delightful tales of Jack and Marguerite Baker are now the company's second-biggest title ever, selling 7.9 million units since its release three and a half years ago.

There's still some way to go until it tops the leader Monster Hunter: World - that's shifted more than twice what Resi 7 has, selling 16.1 million in just a couple of years by comparison - but the latest figures confirm that not only has Resident Evil sold more than the shiny remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, but also that of their original 90s counterparts, too.

ICYMI, Wes recently introduced us to TheBatMan, a Resident Evil fan who has created perhaps the most complete and in-depth fan project ever conceived: a 2700-page long document, a decade in the making, that details the entire mythology of the Resident Evil series.

The timeline you can read now is actually the fourth iteration of a document that began life on popular fansite Biohaze back in 2006. Updates came in 2008 and then 2009, before the project was put on ice following the release of Resident Evil 5. It remained dormant until TheBatMan, a UK resident who has been a fan of Resident Evil since 1997 ("when a trip to my local Blockbuster video to rent out Ace Combat 2 on the PS1 resulted in me coming home with Resident Evil instead"), restarted the project, working to piece together Capcom's spiralling storyline over the course of over 10 years.
