Psychonauts 2 has reached its funding goal on Fig

With over five days to go.

Double Fine's much requested Psychonauts 2 has been funded on the crowdsourcing platform Fig, scraping past its $3.3m goal with over five days left before its 12th January deadline.

Previously the studio raised $3,336,371 across 87,142 backers for Broken Age. This time out there's only 20,262 backers as of writing this, but that's probably because Psychnoauts 2 is a far more ambitious project with a higher asking price. Reserving a copy of the game started at $33 and that only went up to $39 as all the Early Bird special offers were claimed.

"We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible," the developer said in its latest update. "We've wanted to make this game for a long time, and now we finally can! So thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Psychonauts 2's current tally is at $3,316,744. "Everything we raise will go into making the game better, bigger, and shinier, so let's keep going!" Double Fine said of its final days campaigning.

For more on Psychonauts 2, we spoke at length to Double Fine founder and creative lead Tim Schafer, who has assured us that Psychonauts 2 will maintain the depth and breadth of its beloved predecessor, which just so happened to be Eurogamer's 2005 Game of the Year.
