Fortnite Llama locations: Where to increase your chances of finding Supply Llamas

Where to narrow down a Llama location in Fortnite.

Finding Fortnite Llama locations is one of the game's many Challenges.

Completing it will give you additional XP to help go towards your many Season 5 rewards. Note you'll need to be a Battle Pass holder in order to undertake this challenge.

If you're just getting started, our Fortnite Battle Royale tips and tricks can provide some helpful hints.

Fortnite Llamas explained

For the Week 1 Challenges, you are tasked with the following:

  • Search Stages (3 total, 10 Battle Stars)
    • Stage 1: Search Chests
    • Stage 2: Search Supply Drops
    • Stage 3: Search Llamas

What this challenge means is you have to find a Supply Llamas across the map. Supply Llamas are one of the game's many sources of loot - alongside Ammo Boxes, Chests and Supply Drops.

While Ammo Boxes and Chests are dotted throughout the map, and Supply Drops parachute onto the map in regular intervals as the match progresses, Llamas are extremely elusive, with only three said to spawn per match.

Why are they so rare? Because their contents are very vaulable. Inside you'll find:

    • 10 of each ammo type
    • 200 of all three resource types (Wood, Brick and Metal)
    • Three types of trap and consumable (Health or Shields)

Once you have found one, you can interact with it when the button prompt appears as you get close, completing the challenge.

So Llamas are very rare, with just three spawning per map. Not only that, but their locations are said to be completely random, unlike the fixed (but finite number of) locations of Chests and Ammo Boxes.

That said, the following heat map (created by Overwatchero4 on reddit has collated Llama location data from across 200 hours of research.

First, it's worth knowing the data comes from a combination of replay, YouTube and in-game match observations, and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

What it does tell us is the river that splits the map into two - going north and south, and meeting in Loot Lake just off centre - seemingly offers a higher chances of Llama spawns, possibly because fewer players explore these areas.

If you were particularly keen on ticking off this challenge, then exploring the river section - or at least keeping a close eye out as you travel alongside it - could be your best bet.

Another piece info provided alongside the heat map is Llamas don't just spawn on the ground - they can be found on rooftops, up in trees and on mountains, so don't be afraid to look up.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 is here and with it comes a new Battle Pass! This season has introduced EvoChrome weapons, Chrome Splash locations and the ability to phase through walls. There are also new vault locations and map changes. The Paradise quests are this season's storyline challenges, including destorying Chrome objects to collect Chrome anomalies. Make sure to check out the upcoming The Herald skin too! Meanwhile, learn how to get XP fast, earn the Victory Umbrella and Victory Crowns.

Of course, there is a caveat to all this. The heat map was produced before Season 5 - as you can see in the bottom right corner, Moisty Moire is still there with a red patch suggesting high spawns - so there is every chance developer Epic Games has tweaked the spawn rate of Llamas over time.

In either case - you can increase your chances by looking at the start of a match (before other players open them) and trying a mode like 50v50 - where you can cover more ground exploring, with less chances of coming up against other players.

Otherwise, just play the game as normal until you come across one. The reason why finding a Llama location was a week 1 Challenge is because it's difficult, and gives you the maximum amount of time to eventually find one. Best of luck!
