EA Redwood Shores gets new name

Visceral Games has two more in works.

Electronic Arts has announced that its EA Redwood Shores Studio has been renamed Visceral Games "to better reflect the studio's culture, identity and focus on creating intense action-oriented intellectual properties".

The press release also mentions that Visceral has two unannounced titles in development, alongside Dante's Inferno and Wii spin-off Dead Space: Extraction.

The rebranding can be considered a pat on the back for (and an attempt to capitalise on) the success the studio has had with sci-fi horror Dead Space, which was also the first time it worked on all-new intellectual property.

Previous to Dead Space, Redwood Shores - which shares its San Francisco location with EA's HQ - was a journeyman studio that worked mostly on licences: The Godfather, Lord of the Rings, James Bond: From Russia With Love and The Simpsons Game.

"Action, intensity, excellence. It isn't just in our DNA, it's in our blood,” said Visceral Games boss Glen Schofield. “For the past two years, we have adopted a new culture that prizes excellence above all else. Primal action is the beating heart of the studio and now our new name reflects that."

In other words, the licence scut work is someone else's problem now. We'll bring you news of Visceral Games' next projects as soon as we have it.
