E3: Borderlands arrives this October

Gearbox clutches a target.

Gearbox Software plans to release action RPG Borderlands this October on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

One of the game's writers, Mikey Neumann, confirmed the date to GameSpot on the E3 show floor.

Borderlands, described as a cross between Diablo and Mad Max, had - once upon a time - brandished a Christmas 2008 release date. One reason Gearbox missed this was to completely overhaul the visual style of the game to a concept art look.

We got our first glimpse of this in May as well as a brand new trailer from E3.

Aside from the admittedly impressive appearance, Borderland's big claim is a randomly generated world, spanning quests, monsters, weapons, items and areas, and theoretically making the game infinitely replayable - either on solo or with friends.
