DICE to move on from Battlefield 5 after summer update

The final push.

DICE will move on from Battlefield 5 after a summer update, it's said.

The current Battlefield 5 chapter, Into the Jungle, wraps up on 29th April, and DICE will release one more standalone update - targeted for June - before moving on to focus on new projects.

This summer update will include "some new content, weapons, and game tweaks", DICE said, but there will be no new chapter.

In a tweet, DICE clarified that after this summer, Battlefield 5 will not receive any new maps, weapons or factions.

However, following the summer update, players will receive Battlefield Currency or Company Coin as weekly rewards, which will give them a chance to unlock gear they may have missed. DICE also plans various community focused events and activities, and it said it will continue to work on anti-cheat.

"Thank you all for joining this journey and we look forward to sharing more with you this summer," senior producer Ryan McArthur said in a blog post.

Our Martin penned Eurogamer's Battlefield 5 review, saying: "DICE's most entertaining shooter in years is also its most compromised." "A strong if slim shooter that lays down strong foundations for the future, while feeling a little unfinished," Martin wrote.

EA boss Andrew Wilson has said Battlefield 5 ultimately failed to meet sales expectations, blaming its month-long delay from October to November 2018, as well as the lack of a battle royale at launch. Battlefield 5 eventually did get a battle royale mode, dubbed Firestorm, but it failed to make a significant impression on the battle royale landscape.
