Destiny patch forces matchmaking on Weekly Heroic Strikes

But still not Nightfall or raids.

Bungie is adding matchmaking to Destiny's Weekly Heroic Strike missions as of the game's next update.

In fact, matchmaking will now be enforced - meaning no more taking on the activity solo.

There will be no change to the harder level Weekly Nightfall Strike or to either of the game's two raids, despite matchmaking for these activities being a frequent fan request.

"We wanted the Weekly Heroics to be a challenge that pushed you and your buddies, but what we observed was that these strikes don't demand the same cooperation of a cohesive pre-made group," Destiny design lead M.E. Chung explained in a new blog post.

"The overwhelming community response was such that many players didn't have the numbers on their friends list to experience the activity on a weekly basis."

Chung concluded that, while his team were "keenly aware" of requests for matchmaking in other activities, higher level missions relied upon pre-arranged groups of communicative players to be successful, so there will be no further changes at the moment.

Weekly Heroic matchmaking will be added to Destiny via the upcoming 1.1.1 patch, which will also re-balance the game's guns, fix a major heavy ammo bug and allow players to more easily view their reputations with various factions.

Bungie expects the patch to launch before the end of February.
