Pokémon Go Armored Mewtwo counters, weaknesses and stats explained

Everything you need to know about Armored Mewtwo.

Pokémon Go has a new Legendary to add to its ranks - Armored Mewtwo.

You'll be able to battle this new version of the classic first generation Legendary, Mewtwo for a limited time this summer.

Like the Legendary Pokémon that have come before it, including Groudon and Kyogre, Armored Mewtwo will be found in five-star Raids, so you'll need a team of trainers if you want to take it down.

On this page:

Updated on 10th July 2019 to include the move set, stats and CP for Armored Mewtwo.

Armored Mewtwo release dates and time in Pokémon Go

Armored Mewtwo will be ready for battle in Pokemon Go from Wednesday 10th July to Wednesday 31st July.

Here are the release times for Armored Mewtwo:

  • 9pm (BST)
  • 10pm (CEST)
  • 4pm (EDT)
  • 1pm (PDT)

Like previous Legendary Pokémon , you'll be able to battle Armored Mewtwo in Legendary Raids.

These are five-star level Raids and, like with all other Raids, once you've defeated Armored Mewtwo, you need to catch it. So remember to stock up on Golden Razz Berries and practise your Excellent throws.

Armored Mewtwo Counters and Weaknesses in Pokémon Go

Here is a list of Armored Mewtwo counters to help you add it to your Pokédex:

  • Armored Mewtwo Type: Psychic
  • Armored Mewtwo is weak against: Bug, Dark, Ghost
  • Armored Mewtwo counters: Gengar, Origin Giratina, Honchkrow, Houndoom, Lugia, Mewtwo, Tyranitar, Weavile
  • Other Armored Mewtwo notes: Prioritise Dark attacks, as well as powerful Psychics.
  • Armored Mewtwo dates: Wednesday 10th July to Wednesday 31st July

Armored Mewtwo CP and Stats in Pokémon Go

Armored Mewtwo will have the following CP ranges:

  • Raid Boss CP - 41,299
  • Normal CP range for catching Armored Mewtwo - 1740 to 1821
  • Weather Boost CP (Windy) range for catching Armored Mewtwo - 2175 to 2276
  • Maximum CP from being powered up - 3187

Armored Mewtwo's stats are a little bit different when compared to a normal, non-heavy metal, Mewtwo.

Normal Mewtwo has a base attack stat of 300, which is lot higher than Armored Mewtwo's 182. On the other hand, Armored Mewtwo has a higher base defence stat of 278, compared Normal Mewtwo's 182. The decision to lower the attack fits in with the anime canon, where the armour actually restricts Mewtwo's powers, rather than increasing them.

Here are the base stats for Armored Mewtwo:

  • Base HP - 214
  • Base Attack - 182
  • Base Defence - 278

There have also been several other new exciting additions in the game, including shiny Rayquaza available through Raids and an on-going series of Pokémon Go Global Challenges. In the meantime, we have Jump-Start Research quest and Field Research, which can help with some of the harder-to-find Gen 4 Pokémon. The release of Gen 5 Pokémon has also been hinted at! Elsewhere, you can read up on the latest the currently available Legendary Pokémon, and we've given our guide to the best Pokémon in Pokémon Go for attacking and defending another revamp, too.

Everything we know about Armored Mewtwo

Originally, thanks to the trailer Niantic released, it was thought that Armored Mewtwo could have a Raid Boss CP of 49,430. Though, as backstroker1991 explains on reddit, this was unlikely because, due to the recent health bluff, the health of five-star Raid Bosses had increased from 12,500 HP (49,430 CP) to 15,000 HP, giving them, in theory, 54,148 CP.

It's possible that Ninantic is using old footage for the Armored Mewtwo trailer and that is why the CP is different.

Armored Mewtwo first appeared in Pokémon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Created by scientists funded by Team Rocket, Mewtwo is a clone of the legendary Pokémon Mew. Mewtwo murders the scientists when they realises that the scientists consider them to be a project and not a sentient being.

In the wreckage of the lab, Mewtwo is approached by Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, who offers to help Mewtwo focus their powers. After agreeing, Mewtwo is placed within a set of armour that will help regulate their powerful abilities.

For a while, Mewtwo carries out Team Rocket's dirty work, until they learns that Giovanni considers Mewtwo to be a living weapon. Angry, Mewtwo destroys the armour and returns to the island where they were created, vowing revenge on humanity.

This version of Armored Mewtwo, however, is from the CGI remake - Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, which is being released in Japan on 12th July 2019 and in both the UK and US on 17th November 2019.
