Pokémon Let's Go video provides first look at Master Trainers

Cue rocky type training montage.

A couple of days ago in an interview with Eurogamer, Pokémon developer Junichi Masuda and Kensaku Nabana announced Pokémon Let's Go would get new post-game content in the form of Master Trainers. From the interview, we learned these trainers each specialise in a single Pokémon, and can be challenged by players in one-on-one battles with this specific Pokémon. Upon winning a battle, players can then claim the title of being that specific type of Pokémon master - for instance, a Psyduck master. There's also a whopping 151 in total - one for every Pokémon in Kanto. Phew - that should certainly keep you busy.

Today, the Pokémon Company has released a new video which gives us a first look at the Master Trainers, and explains a little more about how they work.

As a post-game feature, Master Trainers will only appear once the player has become the Pokémon League Champion. The trainers themselves seem pretty easy to spot, as they each have their chosen Pokémon bobbing above their head as a tiny icon. From looking at the video, it seems they're spread out across the entire map rather than clustered in a specific area - meaning players will likely have to do some exploring to find a specific type of Pokémon trainer.

They're pretty hard to miss.

Once a player has successfully defeated a Master Trainer, they will then be able to claim the title, which will apparently be displayed in Link battles. I'm looking forward to showing off my Magikarp Master title. Yeah, you'd better be afraid.

Will Magikarp battles just be infinite splashing?

With the sheer number of Master Trainers available after the game's main story is complete, the feature is sure to provide an additional level of challenge for serious players. Not only do you now have to catch them all - you have to master them all, too. Skill inflation is a real thing, folks.
