Asterix game for PC, PS2

It's a sequel, by Toutatis!

In news that would have both Goscinny and Uderzo spinning in their graves if one of them wasn't dead, Atari have announced a new Asterix game that "will make interactive entertainment history as the first ever videogame parody." You can see some screenshots here.

Asterix & Obelix XXL: Mission Las Vegum is being developed for PC and PS2 by Etranges Libellules, the same studio behind the previous game, and we're promised it will be "awash with wry references" to classic games.

For starters there's a centurion going by the name of Larry Craft, who insists on jumping about the place in a pair of canvas shorts rather than the traditional leather skirt.

And Asterix and Obelix now have a helping hand in the form of one Sam Sheiffer, a Roman spy with expert knowledge of new-fangled gadgetry.

The game takes place in the Las Vegum theme park, which features areas such as Little Paris, WCW, LuckSore, Pirate Island and SeizeUs Palace. You get to control both Asterix and Obelix, and there are plenty of other characters from the comic books to meet too.

Asterix & Obelix XXL: Mission Las Vegum is out at the end of October.
