Japan: PS3 still outselling Wii despite dip

Japanese PS3 sales have dipped following the release of PS3 Slim, but are still way above the nearest console competitor, Wii.

Sony's machine managed nearly 40,000 sales for the week ending 27th September, while Nintendo's console dipped to a low of 11,731.

The clear winner, however, is DS - which Media Create says sold 78,399 units during the seven-day period. Handheld rival PSP remains a footnote with 17,334 units sold, although the launch of PSPgo there on 1st November may change that.

Down further, Xbox 360 and PS2 sold 4854 and 2347 units respectively.

Tomodachi Collection regains the software lead ahead of Pokemon Heart Gold and Pokemon Soul Silver, and all three DS games have now broken 1 million sales.

PS3 RPG Tales of Vesperia stays strong with nearly 50,000 units sold to take fourth, ahead of Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Portable 4 (PSP), Wii Sports Resort (Wii) and SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu - Goddess of Destiny (DS).

Old leader Dragon Quest IX edged closer to a lifetime total of 4m down in eighth, followed by the muffled landing of Halo 3: ODST in ninth - not quite the Euro wallop we experienced.

Yu-Gi-Oh! somethingorother rounds the chart out in 10th.
