Halo 5 free to download and play for a week alongside Warzone Firefight launch

Reach for the stars.

Halo 5 gets the big Warzone Firefight update next week - and the full game will be free to download and play to coincide with the launch.

Warzone Firefight, which developer 343 Industries says in the biggest Halo 5 expansion yet, comes out on Wednesday, 29th June.

Then, from 29th June to 5th July, the full game of Halo 5 will be available to download and play for free to all Xbox Live Gold members. The game will be 50 per cent off during the same time.

Warzone Firefight includes a wave-based co-op game mode that rekindles memories of the Firefight mode in Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. The difficulty increases each round and adds new bosses and vehicles, including the new Grunt Goblin boss, and the UNSC VTOL and AV-49 Wasp.

As part of the update, the Halo 5 campaign gets a new Score Attack feature. This lets you compete against your friends for points and medals in online co-op play or solo.

Meanwhile, there are new maps, a new Forge canvas and new REQs items.

If you're interested in downloading Halo 5 next week for free, be warned: expect a hefty download. Halo 5 is already around 81GB, with all the updates released since launch, and Warzone Firefight is sure to boost the client over the 90GB mark.
