First Risen 2: Dark Waters details

Pirate theme, 80 per cent done.

German developer Piranha Bytes has updated the Risen 2 website and revealed the game's subtitle: Dark Waters.

According to translation work by forum posters on NeoGAF, Risen 2 is the first Piranha Bytes game with guns. You play a nameless hero living in a small harbour village called Caldera. We're promised a more complex story with multiple consequences of your decisions. There's a pirate theme.

You're able to travel between islands on a boat, and the game world itself is bigger than that of the first game. Animation is said to be motion captured and faces more realistic. The game is 80 per cent complete.

Risen 2 is the sequel to 2009's divisive fantasy role-playing game.

Dan Whitehead rolled a 4/10 in Eurogamer's review of the Xbox 360 version of Risen. The PC version scored better: 6/10.

Will Risen 2 launch on the PlayStation 3? Will it release this year? We're trying to find out.
