Relic Entertainment has pledged "extensive post-launch" support for Dawn of War II through a variety of free and premium downloadable content.

Initial updates could arrive within the "first few weeks", according to a community question-time with producer Mark Noseworthy. That's if everything goes to plan.

His comments come moments before the Dawn of War II beta doors open to the public.

Owners of Dawn of War expansion Soulstorm will be invited in through Steam tomorrow. Everybody else, however, will have to wait until 28th January to download the beta client from Steam or Games for Windows Live.

Dawn of War II launches here on 20th February, and Relic plans to have a patch addressing beta issues already rolled out by then. We're also promised two extra multiplayer maps "within the first week".

Dawn of War II re-focuses the single-player campaign on squad management and does away with tiring base-building - at least until players embark on multiplayer rampages. Tyranids make an appearance, too, and we can't think of any other game that has a faction like them.

Look out for our impressions of the Dawn of War II beta tomorrow.
