Cave Story DS on the way?

Indie classic goes portable.

Acclaimed homemade platformer Cave Story is heading to DSiWare, according to a hint in the new issue of US mag Nintendo Power.

A grab of the contents page published on its site reveals a screen from the new version of the game, but gives no further information.

The work of solitary Japanese developer Daisuke Amaya, the original Cave Story launched on the PC as freeware in 2004.

A remake of the game is heading to WiiWare later this year. Eurogamer's John Teti gave the import version a hearty 9/10 in April.

We've been in touch with publisher Nicalis to shed some light on things. We'll update if it gets back to us, or when the magazine hits the shelves later this week.
