Capcom: Slant Six not as lazy as expected

The Japanese Capcom producer supervising Slant Six's Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has admitted to believing Western developers are workshy – a preconception that the SOCOM team has happily debunked.

Speaking in an interview with Official Xbox Magazine, Masachika Kawata hailed the Canadian studio's strong work ethic.

"I've never worked with any Western developers besides Slant Six, and I don't know if the same is true of other Western developers, but they work very hard," he said.

"I didn't find any differences to any of the Japanese developers I've worked with before. Besides the time zone and language, I've had no problems working with them at all."

"To be honest, I had my own impression about Western people - being laid back and sitting on sofas, but even yesterday they came in early, on a Sunday, and gave us all sorts of recommendations. They wanted to do it, rather than being dragged out of bed if you like. So they've completely changed my perception about working with Western developers."

Sounds like Kawate hasn't been doing his research. Case in point: earlier this year, an insider at New York-based Homefront developer Kaos Studios explained how staff had been working 10 hours a day, seven days a week for six months to get the game finished.

Slant Six's multiplayer take on the Resident Evil franchise was revealed last week for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
