The Last of Us Part 2 sold 4m copies during opening weekend

Fastest-selling PS4 exclusive ever.

PlayStation has announced spectacular sales for The Last Us Part 2.

Naughty Dog's sequel shifted 4m copies during its opening weekend, making it the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive ever worldwide.

Earlier this week, UK sales figures pegged the game as the biggest video game release of the year so far. It also pipped fellow Naughty Dog exclusive Uncharted 4 to be the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive here in the UK.

Creative director Neil Druckmann today thanked the millions of fans who had played the game and thoughtfully contributed to the discussion around it.

"The Last of Us Part 2 was made possible thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of talented and passionate developers here at Naughty Dog," Druckmann wrote. "We can imagine no greater honour than seeing that same passion mirrored by the people playing it. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing milestone."

Speaking yeserday, Druckmann confirmed there will be no story expansion to The Last of Us Part 2 as there was for the first game, though remained tight-lipped on the studio's future multiplayer plans for the franchise.
