The Last of Us live-action film is in the works

Neil Druckmann is writing the script, Sam Raimi is involved.

A live-action film adaptation of The Last of Us is in development.

George Clooney would make a great Joel. Not so sure about Ellie though.

As reported by Deadline Hollywood, Screen Gems has signed on to distribute the film, which will be penned by the game's creative director Neil Druckmann. Other Naughty Dog elite such as its co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, along with the game's director Bruce Straley, will be pitching in as well as "creative architects".

Sam Raimi's company Ghost House Pictures is also involved.

"When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay," said Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper. "I am thrilled that SCEA's [senior vice president] Riley Russell was able to get me in front of Neil and Evan Wells to plead my case. Sam and his team at Ghost House round out the perfect team to help realise Neil's vision."

Evan Wells called the pairing with Screen Gems and Ghost House "a perfect fit". He added, "since our game released last June, we've talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn't have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards."

Now who do your want to play Joel and Ellie?
