Suda51 announces Lollipop Chainsaw

Cheerleader vs. zombies on PS3, 360.

OTT action title Lollipop Chainsaw is the next project to come out of Shadows of the Damned developer Grasshopper Manufacture.

According to 1UP's translation of the Famitsu reveal, the game puts you in the shoes of 18-year-old cheerleader Juliet Starling who turns up at school one day to find the place over-run by the undead. Duly, she ups chainsaw and sets about cleaning up the place.

Despite the premise, creative director Suda51 promised that the game, planned for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will go light on the gore.

"Instead of sprays of blood, we have the zombies emitting bursts of pink light," he explained. "When it comes to gore, we can certainly go that way if we want, but we wanted to give the game more of a 'pop' feel."

"Since Juliet's a cheerleader, there's going to be action moves that take advantage of her cheerleading skills," added Yoshimi Yasuda, president of the games Japanese publisher Kadokawa Games.

"There are other ways to attack outside of the chainsaw, too, and part of the fun is figuring out which move to use at which time."

As with Shadows of the Damned veteran game composer Akira Yamaoka is in charge of the soundtrack.

Neither a release date nor Western publisher has been confirmed yet but Suda insisted that Grasshopper already has a distributor committed to releasing the game in English.
