Rage novel in the works

Turns at 60 pages a second.

A novel based on id Software's upcoming first-person shooter Rage is in the works.

It's written by Matt Costello, who helped write the video game, and launches in the UK on 30th August from Ebury Publishing.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic earth devastated by an asteroid. Humanity is rebuilding as it struggles with bandit gangs and mutants.

The novel delves deeper into the background to the apocalypse, Bethesda said.

The Rage novel announcement follows the news that the game will enjoy a three-issue comic book series.

The comics, the first of which is due out in June, take place shortly before the events of the game.

Eurogamer last saw Rage at QuakeCon 2010.

"As it pretty much always is with this storied developer," Tom wrote, "it is all about that graphics engine. Staring into the screen and struggling to pick out a single repeated detail, 60 times every second, is almost disorientating. If the kids don't know who id Software any more, they should do by this time next year."
