HMV goes digital

Downloading is the new Shops.

HMV has announced plans to offer games and films via its new digital download service.

You'll only be offered access to music at first - in the form of Windows Media Audio files, since HMV Digital is being set up in co-operation with Microsoft.

But HMV reckons it'll also start offering games and films just as soon as consumer demand becomes strong enough.

A total of £10 million has been earmarked for the venture - and part of that will fund the development of a new piece of 'jukebox' software, being developed by Microsoft.

You'll be able to pick up the software at any of the 200+ HMV stores across the country, or download it from the retailer's website.

HMV Digital will launch on September 5.
