Mortal Kombat 11 players uncover "Toasty!" Scorpion Easter egg

BrutaLITy.

Perhaps the most famous Mortal Kombat Easter egg is "Toasty!". It first appeared in Mortal Kombat 2, and would see programmer Dan "Toasty!" Forden's head appear on the bottom-right corner of the screen accompanied by a falsetto voice bellowing "Toasty!"

In Mortal Kombat 2, you'd get "Toasty!" sometimes after nailing an uppercut. But you'd also get it after performing Scorpion's fatality - the one where he rips off his mask to reveal his skull before breathing fire to burn his opponent to a crisp. Here's how it looked:

"Toasty!" following an uppercut was found in Mortal Kombat 11 back in April, soon after the game came out. But only last week was the Scorpion "Toasty!" discovered.

In Mortal Kombat 11, the Scorpion "Toasty!" is unrelated to a fatality. Instead, it's linked to a brutality (more on the new secret Mortal Kombat 11 brutalities here). As various players and Mortal Kombat YouTubers have revealed in recent days, here's how it works:

You must finish the round with Scorpion's Crispy brutality, which apes Scorpion's old-school "Toasty!" fatality. To do this, the final hit must come from the Demon Breath special move. Hold 3 during the final hit (X on PlayStation 4, A on Xbox One), then, once the brutality animation kicks in, hold down. Unlike Mortal Kombat 11's first "Toasty!" Easter egg, which can only be triggered on the Tournament stage, this second one can be triggered on any stage.

Get it right and you'll get this:

Unfortunately, you don't see the word "Toasty!" on-screen Mortal Kombat 11's Scorpion "Toasty!" Easter egg, as you did in Mortal Kombat 2, but you do hear the audio.

The Mortal Kombat community reckons developer NetherRealm added this Easter egg in the game's latest update, which would explain why players have only recently uncovered it. Whatever the case, it's yet another cool secret in a game full of cool secrets.
