Mario Kart Tour is Nintendo's most-downloaded smartphone game at launch
Lapped the competition.More than 90 million people have downloaded Mario Kart Tour during its first week, making it Nintendo's biggest smartphone launch by quite some margin.
Nintendo's next biggest launch in terms of downloads, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, managed 14.3m during its first week of availability. Super Mario Run managed slightly fewer - 13m - but was only available on iOS to start with.
SensorTower data shows the free-to-play game generated $12.7m (£10.2m) in revenue over its first week, down on Super Mario Run's $16.1m and Fire Emblem Heroes' $28.2m, although each game has its own business model.
Mario Kart Tour employs loot box mechanics to unlock extra racers (similar to Fire Emblem), but also has a bizarre £5 monthly subscription tier for extra cosmetic content on top. There's no data to suggest how many have opted for that.
