LittleBigPlanet boss hails BAFTA win

"I can explain it to my mum."

Media Molecule co-founder Mark Healey has expressed his delight at LittleBigPlanet's BAFTA success, revealing that the Artistic Achievement gong was "secretly the one I really hope we would win".

Chatting with a smartly attired Eurogamer at last night's bash, Healey said a BAFTA award was particularly significant since "it's something I can explain to my mum and she'll understand".

"It probably is good to help get recognition, because it is a big industry and it does pull in a lot of revenue compared to all the other major entertainment industries," he added.

Artistic Achievement was the only prize snagged by LittleBigPlanet, despite nominations in six categories, but Healey said he was thrilled with the result as he felt the team "deserved that one".

"I thought we'd be lucky if we got one to be honest, because of the other games that were nominated," he told us. "I think it's a little reminder that what we do isn't so crazy after all. There's people out there who actually enjoy it and like it."

Healey also said he's been amazed by the creativity of gamers who've been using the title's tools since it released last year. "I can't believe it; it's almost verging on the ridiculous," he said. "Some people that have obviously put so much time and effort into it - it's phenomenal.

"The one that I've seen most recently that really blew me away was a homage to Dead Space. I've obviously sat down and used those tools myself, and I can see the amount of effort that's gone into that - it's amazing."

And with a PSP version recently confirmed, Healey added that there was a lot more LittleBigPlanet to come. "As a concept there's a lot of room still to explore with it - I think we'd like to broaden it and explore it a bit more," he mused. At which point we left him alone to go and celebrate.
