Games industry salaries on the up - report

Americans earning an average of $79k.

A new survey by Game Developer magazine has revealed the average salary for people working in the US games industry is USD 79,000 (GBP 53,000 / EUR 59,000).

As reported by Gamasutra, that's an increase of 7 per cent compared to the 2007 figure.

Business and marketing execs earn the most money - USD 102,000 on average. Experienced high-powered types with six years' experience or more get USD 131,000.

Programmers come in second, earning an average of USD 85,000. Those in the six-years-plus category get 26 per cent more than the average programmer.

People working on the production side of things earn nearly USD 83,000 on average. Around 21 per cent of them are women, fact fans. And women fans.

Sound designers are on an average of USD 78,000. The figure for art and animation artists is just over USD 69,000, while for game designers it's USD 67,000.

Quality Assurance is the lowest paid sector of the industry. The average wage is under USD 40,000.
