Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Gerudo Town, Forbidden City Entry by visiting Kara Kara Bazaar and getting heat resistance for Gerudo Desert

How to get started with Vah Naboris in the south west desert region.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Gerudo Town should be your first port of call to completing Divine Beast Vah Naboris, the sandstorm beast that's in the far south west corner of the map.

This section explains the best way to travel there from the game's starting areas, unlocking a new Towers as you go and how to proceed to the Yiga Clan Hideout.

If you're after help for parts of the game, consult our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide.

How to get to Gerudo Town

The easiest way to get the region's Tower is to travel to the Keh Namut shrine back on the Great Plateau. Look to the south west, and you'll see the tower over the distant mountains.

Glide down to the Jee Noh Shrine that's visible at the base of those mountains, and activate the fast travel point.

You now want to make a beeline there by climbing the mountains to the Tower. If you struggle with this initial climb, then head south down the canyon, which will double back and elevate you up. Soon you'll be next to the mountain where the Tower stands, and again, you can head south and round where the climb is a little easier.

At the top, the Wasteland Tower is stood in the middle of a bog that'll sink you easily. Use Cryonis to create stepping stones to the base, and climb up. Having a stamina upgrade or status boost might help with the long climb.

Once you've unlocked the region, you'll see from the map there is a settlement to the south west. Glide in that direction, but look at out in the canyon below, and you'll see a Shrine and another small settlement. This is Gerudo Canyon Stable and Kay Noh Shrine, which you can visit if you like to activate a fast travel point, though note you cannot take a horse into the desert.

How to get heat resistance for Gerudo Desert and reaching Kara Kara Bazaar

Head south west along the desert path. The short way in the daytime will be quite warm, and in the nighttime, quite cold. Without protection from either your health will slowly drop.

Heat resistance is something we'll get to momentarily, so sprint to the south, otherwise you should be well accustomed to cold resistance from the Great Plateau at the start of the game. If you're struggling with this short distance, then waiting until dawn or dusk will see a more neutral temperature that allows you to travel unhindered.

Either way, head south and after a cutscene showing the Divine Beast, you'll reach Kara Kara Bazaar.

Chat to Robsten on the west side of the settlement to learn that only males can enter Gerudo Town down to the south. Before that, there are merchants and vendors here - including one that'll sell you Hydromelons for heat resistance.

Chuck the Hydromelons with anything else edible - even just apples - to make a Chilly dish that will give you heat resistance. We'll get more permanent resistance as part of this main story, so it's just a temporary measure. A six minute resistance will do fine for now.

Be sure to watch the Memory to the left of where you enter, then set off south, with some heat resistance protection as you go until you reach Gerudo Town.

Activate the Daqo Chisay Shrine outside as a fast travel point, and chat to Benja standing next to it to learn that someone male dressed as a female has been sneaking in - starting the Forbidden City Entry quest.

Forbidden City Entry

Make the trip back to the Kara Kara Bazaar (you can sneak up and grab one of the sand seals to the east to make the trip both fast and fun) and chat to Robsten on the west side about his boss. He'll direct you to the general store, which is the only building you can enter.

Ask Shaillu at the general store's front desk about whether she's seen a sneaky guy to learn about a Hylian vai who relaxes on the roof in the afternoons.

Head outside and approach one of the campfires, and use it to wait until noon. Now head back to the general store and go up the ladder on the right, and at the top, we'll find Vilia.

Study her face, then say she's beautiful, and she'll offer to sell some clothing to you. Hand over the 600 Rupees, and you'll equip the Gerudo outfit set, which not only gives you heat resistance bonus, but the chance to sneak into the city.

Make the journey back to Gerudo Town. Before you enter, it's worth looking out for someone running around outside. This is Bozai, and while you're dressed as a vai, you'll be given a free pair of Snow Boots, which help you move around in cold climates a little easier, as well as a side-quest named The Eigthth Heroine that leads to a pair of Sand Boots.

It's also worth noting there is one of the four Great Fairy Fountain locations near here, too, which you can unlock at your leisure.

For now, however, lets press on. Once inside Gerudo Town, feel free to do the usual exploration of vendors and side-quests, and when you're ready, head up the steps at the far end to visit the chief, Riju.

You'll be tasked with retrieving a stolen heirloom, the Thunder Helm. As instructed, head right into the barracks next door, and chat to Captain Teake up the steps on the left.

Speak to the group in the middle to learn one of their own, Barta has gone missing while looking for it, and the thieves are from the Yiga Clan in the nearby Karusa Valley.

Inside the valley is the Yiga Clan Hideout, which is where we're going next. Get a sand seal and buckle up.
