Naughty Dog's third Uncharted game has been revealed. It's called Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and takes place in the desert.

The setting draws inspiration from Lawrence of Arabia as our hero, Drake, and his good friend Sully, explore the Arabian peninsula - also known as the Atlantis of the Sands.

"When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone's eyes light up here and go, 'Yeah, that's going to be really hard - let's do it!,'" Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig told Entertainment Weekly.

"We're a bunch of nerds," added ND co-president Evan Wells. "We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we've never tapped into before."

As well as create an elaborate and no doubt gorgeous treasure hunt, Naughty Dog also wants Uncharted 3 to make serious strides with multiplayer and co-op.

"We want to take on the big boys of the multiplayer genre," said Wells. "It has become something here at Naughty Dog that will become an important part to all our games."

Other innovations include enhanced backward climbing and the ability to fight multiple enemies at once.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be unveiled proper at this week's Spike Video Game Awards on US telly.

Naughty Dog didn't mention a release date for the game.
