Uncharted 3 bad guy is a woman

Update: official pictures, video added.

Update: She's official: her name is Katherine Marlowe and she's the leader of a secret organisation whose roots date back to Elizabeth I, wrote Naughty Dog community man Arne Meyer on the European PlayStation blog. And Marlowe's got history with Nathan Drake over Sir Francis Drake's ring.

"Marlowe is a much more cerebral enemy than Drake has confronted in the past, using both psychological and physical tactics to get what she is after. Marlowe also has the assistance of her team of highly-trained agents in this secret society – they are far more elusive and dangerous than the hired guns Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan have faced before," the post reads.

A new video and artwork accompanied the announcement. They're below.

Original story: The main bad guy in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be a woman - one who bears an uncanny resemblance to famed British actress Helen Mirren.

"The big reveal is this bad guy who is this older woman who's basically Helen Mirren - they basically cast Helen Mirren or somebody to impersonate Helen Mirren," revealed The Totally Rad Show, showing a small boxed-out video of her in Uncharted 3. "And then there's this guy who's impersonating Jason Statham as her sidekick."

The Helen Mirren-like character wears a smart suit, sports a blonde, side-parted bob and appears to be of unshakable poise and good schooling. The footage also shows her interacting with Uncharted hero Nathan Drake and his cigar-smoking pal Victor "Sully" Sullivan, who are both wearing suits.

And that's it - a fleeting glance at Uncharted 3's prime suspect. Or is she? What twists does Naughty Dog have up its sleeves?

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves remains the pinnacle of action-adventuring this generation, so it's understandable that people are metaphorically throwing themselves from rooftops with wild excitement about Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Eurogamer's first glimpse of the game was last December.
