THQ has plans for Homefront 2

Future FPS will be continued in DLC, sequel.

THQ's near-future FPS Homefront doesn't even have a release date yet, but the publisher's already planning a sequel.

"It's the beginning of a story. We're going to tell this like a serial, with cliff-hangers. And then we intend to continue the story in [downloadable content], until we go to Homefront 2," THQ's core gaming group head Danny Bilson told an investor conference, according to GameSpot.

Homefront is a PS3, PC and 360 shooter casting the player, 20 years in the future, as a resistance fighter struggling against a North Korean occupation of the USA. It's made by Kaos, developer of Frontlines: Fuel of War ("an incomplete experiment under pressure to ship," said Bilson - pressure from him, presumably). We previewed Homefront at the time of the game's E3 unveiling.

Since then, of course, the war on American soil has been portrayed by Modern Warfare 2, and Homefront will also be going up against EA's contemporary Medal of Honor.

"This is one of our big bets, I'll be honest," Bilson said. "People say, 'Why are you going into this Call of Duty space?' And it's because I know we can compete. I know we can compete."
