Tekken Blood Vengeance details

Work yet to start on Tekken x Street Fighter.

Namco Bandai has shed more light on its feature-length CG movie Tekken Blood Vengeance.

In a group interview at Namco Bandai's LevelUp event this morning, attended by Christian Donlan for Eurogamer, Tekken project leader Katsuhiro Harada revealed Blood Vengeance has actually been in development since January 2010.

The film, based on the cinematic intros of Tekken 5 and Tekken 6, is stereoscopic 3D throughout.

Harada also distanced the movie from last year's awful live action Hollywood flick, Tekken.

"That doesn't have anything to do with it this time," Harada insisted. "We're not trying to rewrite those wrongs. Fans are always asking us for a 3D movie. This is our response to them... We want to make a movie that everyone can enjoy, though. Not just Tekken fans."

Namco's Tekken team wanted to do a 3D movie after the creation of the CG opening for Tekken 6's scenario campaign.

Blood Vengeance is a parallel story that takes place between Tekken 5 and Tekken 6, and is described as a "suspense action film".

The film is voiced in English and Japanese with subtitles for other languages. Each character in the game tends to speak their native language. Namco has "tried as much as possible" to use the same voice actors for the film.

Writer Dai Sato, of Cowboy Bebop fame, is a fan of the Tekken series, and was given "quite a bit of creative freedom".

If the film proves popular, a Tekken TV series "could be a possibility".

Harada also mentioned in production fighting games Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken x Street Fighter.

"Tekken X Street Fighter, we really haven't started on that yet," Harada revealed.
